The Kirtland Garden Club’s 29th Annual Garden Tour
Saturday, July 26, 2025
9 am - 3 pm, rain or shine
Those taking the self-guided tour, which is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be able to visit eight gardens in the Roscommon, Higgins Lake, and Houghton Lake areas.
Each year, homeowners with beautiful, interesting, and unique gardens are invited by the Kirtland Garden Club selection team to be showcased on the tour. The Tour includes a large variety of gardens to provide everyone with inspiration and enjoyment.
Homeowners spend countless hours, and presumably years, establishing their gardens of flowers and vegetables: buying, planting, weeding, moving and tending to annuals, perennials, grasses, bushes, shrubs, and trees.
Many incorporate novelty items in their gardens. All hope their gardens will survive the challenges of the Northern Michigan growing season, sandy soil, year-round weather conditions and hungry wildlife. Every garden is a personal expression of creativity and design.
Become a “Garden Tour-ist” by visiting the following:
Pollinator gardens that attract birds, bees, and butterflies. Look closely for fairy houses and other found items among the plants;
The homeowner’s “Peace Park”, where plants reach to the sky in splendid colors and shapes, along with individual gardens that honor people special to the homeowner;
Peonies that are over 20 years old along with trumpet vines, wisteria, magnolia trees, roses, perennials and walking paths;
Shade gardens of perennials, shrubs, ornamental trees and oak trees over 100 years old. The gardens have evolved over the last twenty-five years and have been enhanced with river rocks, blue slate and granite;
A community garden that provides free food to local food banks and individuals. It is a certified Waypoint Station for Monarch Butterflies where over 40 Monarchs were raised and released in 2024.
