April 20, 2026 Meeting
Meeting opened with prayer.
Guests from The Country Gardeners’ Club in Mio were introduced. The Country
Gardeners has approached us about doing some events/trips together.
Lenore gave the Treasurer’s report; We started the month with $5637, spent $1006.12,
and ended the month with $4631.02. Treasurer’s report was accepted unanimously.
Committee Reports;
Program: The schedule is now on the website. On May 18, we will take a trip to Rose
City Greenhouse for a tour and shopping. Lunch and business meeting will be
afterwards, at the Rose City Café. Meet at 9am at Kronner’s Pharmacy, corner of M18
and M55, to carpool. Call Nancy at 989-422-6017 to sign up.
On June 16, we will be going to the Japanese Tea Garden in Saginaw. Note that
this is a Tuesday.
Catalogs for the drip systems discussed at the February meeting were
distributed.
Donations: Lenore donated to Gahagan Nature Preserve and Grayling Garden Club.
Beautification: CRAF Center Garden cleanup will be May 11 at 9:30am, rain or shine.
Houghton Library Garden cleanup will me May 4, 10am; May 5 if it rains. A
committee is needed to maintain this garden, as it is young and needs TLC. Please
think about helping with this.
PR; names of new members were collected for nametags.
Webmaster: Website has been updated, and is current through Community Gardens.
Crafting: Crafting was asked to organize a craft/takeaway for the Kirtland Warbler
Festival on June 6. Crafts were also requested for the Roscommon Art Festival sale.
Quarter cuts advertising the Garden Tour were distributed. Members are asked to
distribute them at local businesses.
Garden Treasures: Kathy Ware emphasized that she is able to store donations, but
absolutely needs help with collecting, carrying, and pricing these things. These items
should be actual garden tools/décor/etc, not just garden themed.
Garden Tour: Patti Gruber again requested someone to step up and take this
committee, as she is stepping down after this Tour. This is the time to volunteer, as
gathering gardens for this year’s tour is an ideal time to gather names of interestedpeople for NEXT year’s Tour. Karen emphasized that, if no one steps u, there will be no
Tour next year or later. If that is something the Club is not interested in supporting, that
is OK, but we need to realize that.
We have 3 gardens committed for this year’s Tour; 5 is ideal.
Karen will arrange a system for Will Call tickets. Bulk tickets, which receive a discount,
will be available online ONLY.
Members; buy your tickets! For each ticket a member purchases, they will receive
another ticket to give away to a friend, neighbor, etc.
No reports from Nature Walk, Overnight Trip, See My Garden, Scholarship, or Art
Festival Committees.
Gardening Questions; None, however, it was announced that the Houghton Lake Public
Library will have a Pressed Flower Bookmark make and take on May 11 at 4pm. Please
pre-register with the library for this.
Also, the Oscoda Public Library in Mio will have a speaker on April 24 at 6pm. He is a
mushroom hunter, and no pre-registration is required.
Meeting adjourned; the vote was unanimous.
